Bored by his dead-end accountancy job, Calvin’s (Hart) life becomes more interesting when a former friend (Johnson) reappears insisting he’s a spy.

Central Intelligence plays to its strengths, milking the little ‘n large Hart/Johnson combo for all its slapstick silliness. It’s not subtle or witty but it is funny.

The action is also solid although watching Dwayne Johnson lay the smackdown on goons is always fun.

Weighed down by an intricate plot that’s more confusing than it needs to be, the pace does noticeably drop in the climax. But Central Intelligence is genuinely good fun.

Sometimes that’s all you need!
