An aging Professor X and weakened Logan reluctantly road trip across America to save a mutant from a shady organisation.
With emotional depth, grounded characters and a gritty aesthetic, Logan‘s a refreshingly grown-up departure for Marvel.
Young newcomer Dafne Keen is undoubtedly the star. As mutant X23 she delivers a poignant performance whilst also brutally kicking ass.
Marvel’s villains are typically criticised but the Mad Max-esque mercenaries pursuing Logan (led by the impressive Boyd Holbrook) are genuinely threatening.
Like Nolan’s Dark Knight, Mangold’s mature direction and well-crafted story elevate Logan above others in the genre.
TL;DR – Logan‘s a game-changer.
